Overview:
Veeco is looking for a collaborative Supplier Quality Assurance Engineer who will be based at our customer site in Westboro, MA, to drive quality improvement and risk mitigation initiatives with suppliers and contract manufacturing partners. Strong communication skills enabled by a data-driven and collaborative skill set will be critical to success in this role as you’ll strive to enable Veeco’s suppliers to meet the challenging requirements of Veeco and its customers more effectively. Responsibilities:
- Enable cost down and part quality improvement initiatives in partnership with supply chain and engineering.
- Participate in cross-functional supplier management teams focused on selecting and improving suppliers and contract manufacturers.
- Create supplier quality improvement plans, perform supplier audits, implement closed-loop corrective actions, and generate quality metrics and reports.
- Work with suppliers to execute product quality plans (PQP) on critical parts and validate/audit their effectiveness (process flows, pFMEA’s, Control Plans, MSA, SPC, etc.)
- Execute supplier audits utilizing SSQA principles to baseline, identify, and drive improvement opportunities with select key suppliers.
- Work closely with design and manufacturing engineering to review supplier specifications and red line drawings to improve supplier effectiveness, reduce supplier deviations, and strengthen inspection effectiveness.
- Develop, refine, and deploy risk mitigation strategies during pre-production phases to enable successful new product launches.
- Manage risk associated with changes in materials or processes, supporting change notification documentation and qualifications internally and through Veeco’s customers.
- Ensure suppliers have implemented processes aligned with copy exact and change control expectations.
- Identify and implement appropriate supplier outgoing quality and incoming quality assurance inspection plans to support zero supplier defects impacting manufacturing operations.
- Utilize SPC tools to enable the identification of process control variances in our supplier base.
- Drive efficiency and effectiveness improvements through automated data management and information systems.
Qualifications:
A technical Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience as a Supplier Quality, Quality, or Manufacturing Engineer, or an MS degree and 3 years of experience is required. Any of the following certifications are helpful: ASQ QE; ASQ CQM/OE; ASQ/RAB Lead Auditor; ASQ QA, ASQ CSQP, Six Sigma Green or Black Belt. Knowledge of electro-mechanical commodities is preferred.

- History of effectively identifying and implementing root cause corrective actions
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally, targeting 25% with bursts to 50%.
- This is an in-office role, when not traveling to suppliers.
Salary and Benefits
The expected salary range for this position is $92,000-$116,000, plus a bonus opportunity. We will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors when determining your pay.
