Overview

This role offers a chance to own and shape supply strategy where it truly matters. As a Senior Commodity Manager, you will lead the sourcing and supplier strategy for critical commodities that directly support the development and manufacture of Veeco’s advanced semiconductor capital equipment.

Operating at a senior level within the organization, you will go well beyond day‑to‑day sourcing. You’ll translate market intelligence into actionable commodity strategies, influence technical and supply decisions, and work side‑by‑side with Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain leaders to balance cost, risk, capacity, and technology alignment. Your insight into supplier capabilities and market dynamics will help drive product scalability and protect supply continuity in a highly competitive, fast‑moving industry.

The ideal candidate sees the supply chain as a competitive weapon, an experienced commodity leader who thrives on complexity and ownership—someone who enjoys building strong supplier partnerships, solving ambiguous supply challenges, and making decisions that have real business impact. You’ll have the opportunity to shape how suppliers are engaged, how risk is managed, and how value is created across the supply base, with clear visibility into the results of your work.

For a senior sourcing professional looking to deepen their influence, expand strategic scope, and work with cutting‑edge technology, this role delivers challenge, impact, and the chance to make a lasting contribution.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject‑matter expert for assigned commodities and categories, maintaining a deep understanding of market dynamics, including cost drivers, global pricing trends, capacity constraints, lead times, and supplier capabilities.
  • Track and interpret industry, technology, and manufacturing trends to proactively inform sourcing and supply chain strategies.
  • Identify and develop suppliers that best align with Veeco’s long‑term technology roadmap, quality standards, and growth objectives.
  • Develop, execute, and continuously evolve multi‑year commodity strategies aligned to current and future product and technology needs.
  • Drive results across total cost of ownership, lead time optimization, capacity planning, inventory management, risk mitigation, and supply continuity.
  • Align sourcing strategies across multiple product lines and programs to maximize leverage, scalability, and standardization where appropriate.
  • Lead cross‑functional teams (Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Finance) to execute sourcing initiatives, cost‑reduction programs, and supply improvement projects.
  • Facilitate working sessions and design decision frameworks that enable efficient alignment and informed trade‑offs.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently with senior leadership, escalating risks, opportunities, and strategic recommendations as needed.
  • Own supplier relationship management for assigned commodities, including performance management, development plans, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Negotiate best‑in‑class commercial agreements covering price, quality, delivery, payment terms, capacity commitments, and service levels.
  • Draft, negotiate, and manage supplier contracts that support long‑term partnerships while protecting Veeco’s commercial and supply risk position.
  • Lead and support supplier site visits, audits, and assessments to drive performance, address risk, and unlock total‑cost improvements.
  • Anticipate and resolve complex supply issues through structured problem‑solving and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Proactively identify supply chain risks and implement mitigation strategies, including dual sourcing and supplier financial assessments.
  • Champion new ideas and best‑in‑class sourcing and supply chain practices, contributing to continuous improvement at both the commodity and enterprise level.
