Overview:
Veeco is seeking a Project Engineer - New Product Introduction (NPI) to join our Somerset, NJ, team. This multidisciplinary position is primarily geared toward project management of manufacturing operations during the product development cycle and the transition into full production. In addition, the NPI Engineer will support the transition of early-stage development into controlled builds and sustained manufacturing, including process development, input to design for assembly, and generation of supporting documentation. In this role, the NPI Engineer will work closely with program management, manufacturing engineering, build and test technicians, quality engineering and supply chain management functions. Success in this role requires individuals who are highly motivated, goal oriented and driven.
Responsibilities:
- Support NPI programs through detailed project execution, coordinating engineering, operations, and supply chain activities during prototype and pilot build phases.
- Drive cross‑functional alignment across Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Field Service to ensure successful product ramps. Build, maintain, and communicate detailed project schedules and Gantt charts to stakeholders.
- Lead technical risk identification and mitigation throughout the project lifecycle, including configuration gaps, ECO impacts, and late-stage design changes.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and system definitions to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to build start and customer source inspection.
- Act as the primary technical interface between Engineering and Operations during tool build, test, and ship readiness phases, escalating issues as needed to maintain schedule and quality.
- Monitor progress, track deliverables, and actively manage risks, including resource constraints, material availability, and technical challenges.
- Maintain project dashboards, action-item reports, and risk registers to ensure project visibility and accountability.
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on SAP, leveraging deep knowledge of ERP/MRP workflows to manage material readiness, drive data accuracy, and guide teams on best‑practice system usage.
- Act as the expert on business process implementation and continuous improvement, identifying gaps, standardizing workflows, and recommending enhancements that streamline operations, reduce cycle time, and improve cross‑functional efficiency.
- Collaborate with Operations management to allocate resources for successful project completion. Partner with Planning and Supply Chain to manage shortages. Work with commodity managers, buyers, and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of long‑lead and critical components.
- Act as a collaborative partner with Planning, Supply Chain, Quality, Field Service, and Operations team to better align, improve and standardize systems and processes
- Lead documentation of lessons learned and best-known methods during new product development cycles
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering or related discipline with a minimum of 5 years of experience managing delivery of projects requiring interaction, cooperation and coordination across multiple disciplines or a Master’s Degree and a minimum of 3 years of experience is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience managing complex projects from sales order to delivery where coordination and cooperation with disciplines across many functions is required for success: (hardware and software engineering, materials, manufacturing operations, quality, etc.).
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment; able to manage changing schedules, specifications, resources effectively. Able to provide leadership through influence for a multi-disciplinary team. Adept at multitasking and prioritizing.
- Must possess a positive attitude and excellent communication skills. Speaks with clarity; credible, confident with customers, management and peers.
- Skilled in the use of computers, software applications, and other technology used for information gathering, product testing, computation, and project management. This includes proficiency in the Microsoft Suite- Office, Excel, Word, MS Project, Teams Planner and PowerPoint.
- Experience with semiconductor capital equipment preferred.
- Experience with SAP, SolidWorks CAD drawing is desirable.
- PMP Certification a plus.
Salary and Benefits
The expected salary range for this position is $94,000-$118,000, plus a bonus opportunity. We will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors when determining your pay.
