OVERVIEW

Veeco is expanding manufacturing capacity across multiple product lines — including a planned 10x increase in Spector® IBD capacity by early 2027 — to meet accelerating demand from customers building AI and high-performance computing infrastructure.

Every one of those systems needs to move from sales order through configuration, build, test, and shipment to the customer on schedule and within budget. As a Project Engineer, you are the single point of accountability for that journey. You will drive cross-functional teams — Planning, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, and Field Service — through every stage of the delivery process, managing the schedule, resolving blockers, and keeping both the customer and Veeco leadership informed. This is a matrix role where you lead through influence rather than direct authority, coordinating across teams that report elsewhere but depend on you to keep the project on track. If you have managed complex capital equipment deliveries and know how to hold a schedule together when engineering changes, supply chain delays, and customer requirements collide — this is where that experience matters.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Own the delivery timeline for each assigned system build, from order receipt through configuration, manufacturing, test, and shipment — aligning engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, and quality milestones into a single integrated schedule that you manage and communicate weekly.
  • Identify and resolve risks across engineering, operations, and supply chain that threaten on-time delivery — escalating early with a clear mitigation plan rather than waiting for the issue to become a crisis.
  • Serve as the primary project contact for external customers, providing status updates, managing expectations when schedules shift, and coordinating customer source inspections and ship-readiness reviews to ensure every system meets acceptance criteria before it leaves the building.
  • Conduct weekly Engineering Change Order (ECO) reviews with contract manufacturing partners, assessing the impact of design changes on active and upcoming builds and developing action plans that define when and how each change takes effect in production.
  • Track and coordinate engineering deliverables — both electrical and mechanical — against the project schedule, ensuring design milestones and documentation are complete before dependent manufacturing activities begin.
  • Deliver clear weekly status reports to operations leadership, covering schedule performance, open risks, resource constraints, and any customer-facing issues — giving management the visibility they need to make timely decisions.
  • Identify and implement process improvements that reduce cycle time, improve delivery predictability, or eliminate recurring blockers — then share those improvements with the broader project engineering team so every project benefits.
  •

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline) or a related technical field — or an equivalent combination of education and manufacturing project management experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing operations, project engineering, or project management — preferably involving complex capital equipment or electromechanical systems.
  • Direct experience interfacing with external customers in a manufacturing or site-based delivery environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Experience managing the delivery of complex configured systems from sales order through shipment — including coordination with engineering, manufacturing operations, planning, quality, and logistics — where delays in any one function directly impact the customer delivery date.
  • Proficiency with project scheduling tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or equivalent) and a working understanding of SAP or a comparable enterprise resource planning (ERP) system for tracking orders, materials, and production status.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical system design — sufficient to read engineering drawings, interpret ECO impacts, and ask informed questions during design reviews. Familiarity with SolidWorks or AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Mandarin Chinese or Japanese preferred — valued because Veeco works with contract manufacturing partners and customers in Asia, and direct communication accelerates issue resolution.
  • Skilled at leading through influence in a matrix organization — you hold people accountable for their deliverables without having positional authority over their teams, and you do it in a way that builds trust rather than friction.
  • Clear, confident communicator — both in written status reports to operations leadership and in live updates with customers where you need to manage expectations, explain trade-offs, and keep the relationship intact when the news is not ideal.
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management credential is valued but not required — a track record of on-time, on-budget system deliveries matters more than a credential.
