Veeco is seeking a Production Planner / Scheduler to support day-to-day manufacturing execution for existing products at our Somerset, NJ facility. In this role, you will manage assigned short-term production schedules and work orders, respond to changing shop-floor conditions, and help keep builds aligned with delivery commitments.

Working within Manufacturing Operations, you will partner with Manufacturing Supervisors, Production Managers, Supply Chain, Stores, Quality, and Engineering to identify constraints, adjust priorities, and recover at-risk work. You will exercise judgment within established planning processes and escalate issues that require broader cross-functional or management decisions.

This is a manufacturing planning and production-control role focused on factory execution. It is not a long-range supply planning or procurement position.

Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned daily work orders in SAP, including release, prioritization, sequencing, status maintenance, and closure, in accordance with established procedures.
  • Build and adjust short-term production schedules for assigned products or work centers based on material availability, labor, capacity, and current shop-floor conditions.
  • Monitor open, in-process, constrained, and late work orders; identify execution gaps and take defined recovery actions or escalate when additional support is required.
  • Reprioritize and reschedule work to address material shortages, rework, labor constraints, capacity disruptions, and expedite requests.
  • Act on Material Requirements Planning (MRP) exception messages as execution signals for assigned work orders.
  • Maintain accurate SAP data, including work order status, priorities, lead times, quantities, and completion information.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Supervisors and Production Managers to confirm build priorities and communicate clear schedule direction to the shop floor.
  • Coordinate with Supply Chain and Stores to resolve material constraints affecting assigned schedules.
  • Support implementation of Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and Material Review Board (MRB) dispositions within active work orders.
  • Participate in daily production, shortage, and schedule-recovery reviews; provide factual updates on risks, commitments, and expected completion dates.
  • Use established planning and production-control practices to support schedule adherence, work-in-process control, throughput, and data accuracy.
  • Identify recurring execution issues and recommend practical improvements to scheduling, work order control, or production flow.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Operations, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
  • A minimum of 2 years of related experience in manufacturing planning, production scheduling, or production control; or a master’s degree with no prior related experience; or equivalent education and experience will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting production schedules and work order execution in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with SAP production planning, work order management, or MRP execution; or similar ERP planning system to maint production or work order data.
  • Experience in low-volume, high-mix, long-lead, or complex electromechanical equipment manufacturing.
  • Exposure to ECN implementation, MRB dispositions, rework coordination, Lean Manufacturing, WIP control, or production-flow improvement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of short-term production scheduling, work order control, and manufacturing execution.
  • Ability to review multiple factors, including material, labor, capacity, priorities, and rework, and select an appropriate action within defined procedures.
  • Ability to recognize when a situation requires deviation from standard practice and escalate appropriately.
  • Ability to work directly with manufacturing teams and build productive cross-functional relationships.
  • Practical problem-solving skills and a consistent focus on schedule recovery and follow-through.
  • Attention to detail and accountability for assigned work orders, schedule data, and commitments.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain priorities, risks, and status.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a changing production environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office tools.
