Overview
Veeco is seeking an execution‑driven Planner/Scheduler – Manufacturing to support manufacturing operations for existing products at our Somerset, NJ facility. This role plays a critical part in keeping production on track by owning short‑term schedules and work order execution, responding to daily changes on the shop floor, and ensuring products are built and delivered on time.
The position sits within Manufacturing Operations and works closely with Manufacturing Supervisors, Production Managers, and Supply Chain partners to manage priorities, resolve constraints, and recover at‑risk work orders. The role combines hands-on production scheduling and shop-floor production control, with a clear emphasis on decision-making, schedule ownership, and execution, rather than coordination alone.
Success in this role comes from staying connected to the shop floor, acting quickly when issues arise, and driving results through disciplined planning and follow‑through. This is a Manufacturing Operations role, not a Supply Chain or Procurement position, supporting multiple build projects simultaneously.
Responsibilities
- Own short‑term production schedules for current production manufacturing.
- Demand planning aligned to the build plan and creation of executable schedules aligned to labor, capacity, and material availability.
- Release, prioritize, sequence, and reschedule work orders in SAP based on changing shop‑floor conditions and production strategy.
- Make real‑time scheduling decisions to support expedites, service‑driven demand, and recovery of late or at-risk work orders.
- Partner with Manufacturing Supervisors and Project Managers to set and adjust build priorities.
- Maintain end‑to‑end ownership of work orders from release through completion.
- Track and actively manage open, late, and constrained work orders, driving recovery plans.
- Adjust schedules and priorities in response to material shortages, rework, labor constraints, and capacity disruptions.
- Ensure work orders are closed accurately and on time.
- Be actively engaged with the shop floor to understand real‑time execution status.
- Provide clear job status, priority guidance, and schedule updates to Manufacturing teams.
- Identify execution gaps such as queue delays, missing material, or rework, and take corrective action.
- Support production meetings, shortages reviews, and schedule recovery discussions.
- Act on MRP exception messages as execution triggers for open work orders.
- Partner with Supply Chain and Stores to resolve material constraints impacting schedules.
- Review and apply Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) to affected work orders.
- Execute and track Material Review Board (MRB) dispositions, coordinating rework or replacement material to protect schedules.
- Manage intercompany production-related transactions that impact production flow.
- Maintain accurate scheduling data, priorities, lead times, and work order statuses in SAP.
- Ensure system data reflects actual shop-floor conditions to support execution decisions.
- Provide reliable visibility into schedule adherence and production commitments.
- Identify opportunities to improve schedule adherence, WIP control, throughput, and planning accuracy.
- Support the standardization of production planning and control practices for sustainment production.
- Contribute to improvements in material flow and production execution discipline.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Operations, or related focus.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Manufacturing Planning, Scheduling, or Production Control.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Experience supporting low‑volume, long-lead production strongly preferred.
- Hands‑on experience with ERP systems; SAP strongly preferred.
- Strong production execution mindset with the ability to make frequent, time‑sensitive scheduling decisions.
- Comfortable working directly with Manufacturing Supervisors and Project Managers on the shop floor.

- Detail‑oriented with strong ownership of work orders and commitments.
- Clear, concise communicator with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Office tools.
