OVERVIEW

The AI data centers reshaping computing depend on chips built with ultra-precise thin-film coatings — coatings produced on Veeco's Spector ion-beam deposition systems. Demand for these systems is rising fast, and Veeco is scaling its Somerset test floor to ship them without compromising quality. As a Manufacturing Technician, you will troubleshoot and test complete Spector systems and their sub-systems, working shoulder to shoulder with Engineering to resolve the toughest issues before a tool ever reaches a customer. You are the last technical checkpoint between the build floor and the customer — the data you analyze and the corrective actions you drive keep Veeco's quality reputation intact and its production ramp on schedule.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Troubleshoot and resolve the most complex issues found during test, partnering with Engineering and R&D to get each Spector system running to specification.

  • Own the corrective-action loop for discrepancies — analyze the data for each system, drive fixes to closure with Manufacturing Engineering and Assembly Test Technicians, and aim for zero findings at customer source inspection.

  • Manage all manufacturing test data for acceptance testing, keeping records accurate and audit-ready from first test through final sign-off.

  • Compile statistical reports for each system during final test, turning raw test data into clear evidence that a tool is ready to ship.

  • Improve how Veeco tests its products — refine test methods for current systems and help Engineering develop new test methods for new products and components.

  • Confirm each system meets specification before release, serving as the technical checkpoint that protects both the customer and the build schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED (General Educational Development credential).

  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience testing and troubleshooting complex electromechanical systems.

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Availability to work overtime as production demand requires.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Experience with high-vacuum semiconductor hardware and manufacturing practices.

  • Hands-on experience with high-voltage and high-power systems, including the safety practices they require.

  • Working knowledge of hardware, software, and control systems, with analog and DeviceNet (D-Net) controls preferred.

  • Skilled at statistical data analysis — able to turn discrepancy data into clear corrective actions and spot recurring issues before they repeat.

  • Strong troubleshooting instincts, using logic and structured reasoning to weigh the trade-offs of different solutions.

  • Proficient with SAP, from simple inquiries to complex reports and transactions (preferred).

  • An Associate's degree in a technical or engineering field, or a technical field-service background (preferred).

  • Clear communicator who can work across assembly technicians, Engineering, management, customers, and sales.
