Overview:
Veeco’s Somerset, NJ location is looking for a Lead Material Handler to serve as a key resource and go-to person within the warehouse team. This position is responsible for the timely, accurate, and safe movement and reporting of materials throughout daily warehouse operations. Responsibilities may include picking and staging materials for sales orders and service depot locations; picking components for production work orders; preparing materials for shipment to Contract Manufacturers; receiving vendor materials, customer RMA returns, and vendor repair returns; and issuing materials to Engineering to support projects and replenish lab supplies. The Lead Material Handler will also pick, pack, and ship materials safely and accurately for both domestic and international transportation. The role will participate in daily cycle counting and periodic physical inventory activities, while serving as a knowledgeable resource for the team and helping coordinate day-to-day warehouse activities.
This is a lead-level role focused on expertise, coordination, and being a go-to resource for the team rather than formal people management or direct supervision.
Responsibilities:
- The position includes interfacing with sales, customer service, credit, and other areas at corporate headquarters.
- Assists in the managing & training of distribution staff to achieve company goals in service and distribution.
- Provide real-time feedback to Warehouse leaders on processes and procedures, as well observations regarding the performance and methods of others (quality, safety, efficiency), so that they can reinforce positives and address any issues that do not align with expectations.
- Act as a point of escalation for operational issues, assisting in problem resolution before escalating to supervisors.
- Support the Inventory and Warehouse policies and procedures currently in place (warehouse security, daily warehouse processing, and fiscal period cutoffs).
- Post inventory transactions daily into SAP in adherence to defined warehouse procedures and work instructions.
- Organize, pick, pack, ship and transport material.
- Work in concert with other Operations personnel to support the responsive environment required by Operations.
- Participate in Warehouse 5S – Workplace Organization initiative to drive towards a safer, cleaner and more-organized warehouse environment.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of material to allow time for accurate handling and assembly of material.
- Ensure all necessary information of documents are correct to avoid errors in material processing.
- Light assembly work as needed.
- Remain flexible and be available to shift into multiple areas of the operation for the purpose of providing support when business shift.
- Perform daily assigned cycle counts in support of maintaining a World Class Inventory percentage of 99.9%
- Operate machinery such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand tools, vent hoods and wash sinks.
- Ensure safety is top priority.
- General upkeep duties in the Warehouse area as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma and at least 6 years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must be computer proficient, with prior experience in performing inventory transactions in a computer-based business system.
- Knowledge of inventory controls or related experience in a managed inventory environment is required.
- SAP experience is required.
- Experience processing RMA and MRB products, preferred.
- Experience using Excel.
- Comfort in leading regular meetings with management and cross-functional teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Capability to managing tasks while ensuring effective and accurate communication.
- Ability to operate machinery such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand tools, vent hoods and wash sinks, previous certification preferred, training provided.
- Ability to lift 40 pounds.
- Ability to work overtime as needed.
Salary and Benefits
The expected salary range for this position is $56,251—$71,252, plus a bonus opportunity. We will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors when determining your pay.
