Overview: 

The Commodity Manager will be responsible for defining and executing the strategic direction for assigned commodities and categories that support the development and manufacture of advanced semiconductor equipment. This role leverages deep market knowledge and supplier insight to drive cost, quality, and supply continuity. Working closely with engineering, operations, and supply chain partners, the Commodity Manager strengthens Veeco’s supply base while enabling innovation, scalability, and long‑term business success.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership in and develop an understanding of the market for the commodities/categories assigned, including industry trends, cost drivers, global pricing, lead-times, technology and manufacturing capability of company suppliers and suppliers in the market that best meet expectations and objectives.
  • Create, execute, maintain, and continually improve upon commodity strategies for the commodities assigned; focused on current and future alignment of technology requirements, and achieving objectives in terms of total cost, lead-time, capacity, inventory management, risk mitigation, and overall supply chain effectiveness.
  • Lead across product lines and cross functional teams to create and execute commodity strategies, continuous improvement and supply projects; facilitating groups effectively; design and manage working sessions; involving and communicating to management as necessary.
  • Anticipate, recognize, analyze and solve complex supply problems, communicating to and involving colleagues, management and stakeholders as necessary.
  • Manage supplier relationships and performance to meet company expectations and objectives.
  • Negotiate best in class price, quality, delivery, payment and delivery terms, and customer service requirements that align with business objectives.
  • Negotiate agreements and contracts to establish a framework for the working client / supplier business model, manage supply risk and meet business objectives. Negotiate and write contracts as needed to purchase goods and services.
  • Lead, coordinate and support onsite supplier visits, assessments, audits and continuous improvement opportunities to improve total cost and address issues with supplier performance.
  • Support corporate goals as to quality, cost, customer service and inventory management. Understand, introduce and lead new thought/“best of” supply chain and sourcing practices into the group.
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 15% of the time. May also travel internationally.

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Business or Engineering, preferably Mechanical/Industrial/Aerospace Engineering or International Supply Chain is required and a minimum of 5 years of experience in purchasing, supply chain or strategic sourcing is required.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience working for a company that designs and/or manufactures capital equipment is preferred
  • APICS or CPM Certification highly desired
  • Strong Negotiation skills
  • Experience with Excel including pivot tables, complex formulas, and Co-Pilot
  • Experience with PowerPoint for creation and deliver of presentation
  • Complete knowledge of all aspects of Purchasing including but not limited to: Source selection, price / cost analysis, negotiation, purchase justification and documentation
  • Must be highly detailed and able to work multiple tasks independently with little direct supervision in a fast-paced environment
  • Understands Purchasing Law as it applies to the purchasing function
  • Plastic/polymer experience is a plus
  • Experience in the vacuum and semi-conductor marketplace is desired
  • Experienced working within a contract manufacturing model is preferred
  • Technical competence (understanding prints/specs and manufacturing processes) is required
  • Highly skilled in determining requirements, supplier rationalization, supplier and supply chain development, dual sourcing, risk management, and supplier financial assessment
  • Strong verbal and written communication; effectively listening and consistently communicating expectations, requirements and issues with suppliers and stakeholders
  • Capable of communicating with both middle and upper management with clarity


Salary and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is  $97,298 — $123,245, plus a bonus opportunity. We will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors when determining your pay.
