Overview

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer leads the end-to-end transfer and industrialization of products into Contract Manufacturing (CM) factories. This role owns technical strategy, factory readiness, and process robustness for complex product introductions and transfers across sites. The position requires strong customer engagement, cross-functional leadership, and the ability to drive scalable manufacturing solutions from concept through stabilized production.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Transfer Leadership
    • Lead complex product transfers into CM factories, including multi-site/global programs.
    • Own technical due diligence of product data (BOMs, drawings, specs, test methods) and define transfer strategy.
    • Identify and mitigate technical, supply chain, and manufacturing risks.
    • Serve as primary technical interface during transfer and industrialization.
  • Manufacturing Strategy & Factory Setup
    • Define manufacturing architecture, line design, and capacity plans aligned to cost, quality, and volume targets.
    • Lead equipment, automation, tooling, and test strategy decisions.
    • Drive make vs. buy and manufacturing footprint decisions.
    • Ensure full factory readiness (materials, equipment, workforce, documentation).
  • Process Development & Industrialization
    • Develop scalable, repeatable manufacturing processes.
    • Lead process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ, capability studies, GR&R).
    • Oversee pilot builds, engineering runs, and production readiness.
    • Establish PFMEA, Control Plans, and CTQs.
  • Production Ramp & Stabilization
    • Own ramp performance (i.e. yield, throughput, cost).
    • Lead cross-functional issue resolution and root cause analysis.
    • Implement corrective actions and drive operational stability.
  • Program Influence
    • Drive Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) improvements.
    • Support design reviews, audits, executive updates, quoting with process, cost, and schedule inputs.
    • Partner with Program Management, Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations teams.
  • Continuous Improvement & Lifecycle Support
    • Drive cost, yield, and cycle time improvements.
    • Support Engineering Change Orders (ECO) and Engineering Change Notice (ECN) with full impact assessment.
    • Lead re-transfers, second sourcing, and capacity expansion.

Qualifications

  • Education
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering (Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, or related)
  • Experience
    • 8+ years in Manufacturing Engineering
    • Proven experience in product transfer, industrialization, and factory setup
    • Background in contract manufacturing (CM/EMS/CDMO) preferred
    • Experience managing multiple complex programs
  • Technical Expertise 
    • Manufacturing process design and industrialization
    • Process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ), PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC
    • Tooling, test systems, and production scaling
    • ERP/MRP and PLM systems
    • Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt)
  • Leadership & Soft Skills
    • Strong cross-functional communication skills
    • Excellent problem-solving skills
    • High ownership and ability to drive execution in ambiguous environments
    • Mentorship and technical leadership
    • Global manufacturing and site transfer experience
