OVERVIEW

Veeco’s Laser Annealing and Advanced Packaging Systems require robust electrical architectures that integrate power, controls, safety, and system interconnects into reliable semiconductor manufacturing equipment. As a Staff Electrical Engineer, you will own system-level electrical design decisions from concept through production release, improving equipment reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and customer performance. You will translate complex product requirements into integrated analog, digital, and alternating-current and direct-current power solutions while guiding cross-functional teams through verification and issue resolution. Your work will shape the electrical architecture, design practices, and technical direction of current and future Veeco platforms.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own electrical subsystem and system-level architectures for complex semiconductor capital equipment, translating customer and internal requirements into reliable, manufacturable designs.

• Lead detailed design and integration of analog, digital, mixed-signal, alternating-current and direct-current power, controls, printed circuit boards, cables, and cable harnesses.

• Define and verify industrial control-system interconnects, including EtherCAT-based architectures, to ensure dependable communication, power distribution, and equipment operation.

• Design safety interlocks and drive compliance reviews against applicable Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International, Underwriters Laboratories, European Conformity, and related product-safety requirements.

• Direct hands-on verification, calibration, and root-cause investigations, using test data to resolve complex manufacturing, laboratory, and field issues.

• Guide product development planning by defining technical scope, risks, tasks, effort, and cost for new features and equipment platforms.

• Deliver complete production-release documentation, including schematics, drawings, reports, test results, calibration methods, and design-review materials.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 12 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience designing electrical or electronic systems for industrial products or complex capital equipment.
  • Experience developing analog, digital, mixed-signal, and alternating-current and direct-current power systems.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Develop and maintain electrical design documentation using CAD tools, including schematics, layouts, wiring diagrams, interconnects, cables, and harness assemblies.
  • Working knowledge of EtherCAT or comparable industrial communication and control networks.
  • Deep understanding of electrical signal, power, grounding, control, and safety distribution in large industrial equipment.
  • Familiarity with Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International S2 and S8, voltage-sag immunity requirements, European Conformity requirements, Restriction of Hazardous Substances requirements, and related regulatory standards.
  • Proficiency with OrCAD, Altium Designer, AutoCAD, or comparable electrical design tools; familiarity with PADS is beneficial.
  • Skilled at converting test results and complex technical tradeoffs into clear recommendations for engineering, manufacturing, program, and service stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical decisions across research and development, manufacturing, and field teams while managing multiple priorities.
  • Apply electrical safety, regulatory, and compliance standards throughout equipment design, development, testing, and product release activities.
  • Develop and maintain electrical design documentation using CAD tools, including schematics, layouts, wiring diagrams, interconnects, cables, and harness assemblies
