Overview:

The Data Scientist will work with Engineering, Technology and Product Line Marketing to develop analytical models and solutions to enhance the performance of Veeco products (including laser annealing, ion beam etch and deposition, MOCVD and other product lines) to provide greater value to our customers through data analytics, advanced fault detection, predictive maintenance, and machine learning.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the existing data streams available to be leveraged, and collaborate with engineering and technology to identify new/additional sensors and/or data streams needed to provide the most impactful and actionable data for our customers

  • Mine, aggregate, cleanse and analyze data from diverse streams and learn to identify predictive maintenance opportunities and/or opportunities for greater yield and process efficiencies for our customers

  • Work with internal product and technology experts, as well external consultants, and specialists to develop robust and scalable solutions using data analytics and machine learning

  • Apply established industry standards to develop clear, understandable specifications to translate the technical, product and customer requirements into data analytics and machine learning terminology to ensure that solutions developed solve the most impactful challenges

  • Test and validate the machine learning and data analytics solutions to ensure that requirements are met

  • Act as a point of communication and coordination between the internal and external experts

  • Collaborate with internal engineers and technologists to apply data science and machine learning methodologies as enhance our product

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, including electrical, chemical, materials or software engineering, or in physics, chemistry, applied mathematics or statistics and a minimum of 2 years of experience in data science/analytics and machine learning or a Master’s degree in data science/analytics is required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge and experience with Python, R, C/C++, JAVA or similar

  • Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills, and comfortable communicating internally and externally with people from diverse functions

  • Experience writing technical specifications and validating that the solution meets those specifications

  • Solid mathematics and statistical data analysis capability

  • Ability to travel domestically 10%

 

 

The expected salary range for this position is $105,000-$133,000, plus a bonus opportunity. We will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors when determining your pay.
