The Systems Engineer is a key member of the New Product Development (NPD) and Engineered to Order (ETO) engineering teams, working on complex wafer processing equipment for Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE). In this role you will lead and/or develop and execute complex engineering projects, involving a range of engineering disciplines and solutions. The primary focus of the position is to utilize system engineering expertise to lead and/or develop and execute system engineering projects while ensuring the Marketing Requirements Specifications (MRS) are valid and attainable. They will work with cross functional team to develop new products, and review specifications and influence product designs. You will have the opportunity to be hands-on with state of the art semiconductor equipment enabling the technoogy of the future.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop and execute complex designs from concept to productization of MBE components and systems.
  • Work hands-on with building, testing, troubleshooting, and generating testing reports of related ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) process equipment.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Applications Team to interpret customer requirements and develop tailored system solutions.
  • Drive Engineer-to-Order (ETO) efforts by adapting core technologies to meet unique customer specifications.
  • Collaborate with Electrical, Software, and Applications teams to ensure system-level performance and reliability.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for system-level issues on MBE products.
  • Create and present technical documentation, including design reviews, test plans, and project reports.
  • Occasional travel to field to assist initial installation of newly developed products and field upgrades or to support field service on difficult technical issues.
  • Perform analytical studies and theoretical calculations, requiring a variety of engineering knowledge, including analysis of vacuum vessels and heat transfer
  • Support Program Management of cross functional developments for ETO and NPD.
  • Keeps up with various engineering technology trends.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, with 3+ relevant experience.

 

A background in systems engineering for capital equipment in a development or manufacturing setting.

 

Experience

  • Proficient in 3D CAD tools; SolidWorks preferred.
  • Proficient in engineering drawing and drafting standards (e.g., GD&T, ASME Y14.5), with the ability to create and interpret detailed mechanical drawings.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Basic understanding of controls vs. software for troubleshooting.
  • Detail-oriented with sound judgment; able to lead or mentor projects.
  • Works well independently and in teams.
  • Experience designing for manufacturability and serviceability.
  • Solid grasp of material science and engineering analysis (e.g., thermodynamics, heat transfer, FEA).
  • Broad knowledge of electromechanical systems and software engineering concepts.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, including specification development.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor equipment and vacuum process systems (MBE or CVD preferred).


Salary and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is $94,499.00 — $119,699.05, plus a bonus opportunity. We will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors when determining your pay.
