Overview:
The Technical Instructor develops, maintains, and delivers technical training for both customer and internal Veeco personnel. This role creates instructor-led, hands-on, remote, and computer-based training content that supports safe, accurate, and consistent performance of released procedures. The instructor develops training material through work with subject matter experts to define learning objectives, build training packages for new systems and topics, and convert existing materials into Learning Management System-(LMS) ready courses.
Training Delivery responsibilities include classroom instruction, lab demonstrations, remote delivery, student performance activities, knowledge checks, and course attendance tracking. The instructor trains internal Field Service Engineers as well as customer operators and maintenance personnel, with emphasis on procedure compliance, safety, task accuracy, system operation, and practical troubleshooting skills.
In addition to training development and delivery, the Technical Instructor supports technical documentation by reviewing, verifying, and validating procedures for safety, clarity, completeness, and technical accuracy. The role requires strong technical knowledge, effective communication skills, and the ability to translate complex equipment functions into clear learning experiences for both internal and external learners.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate, and schedule training deliveries for internal and customer students.
- Deliver instructor-led training in both in-person and remote learning environments.
- Develop training materials for customer training and internal employee training programs.
- Train personnel to perform released procedures safely, accurately, and consistently.
- Use a Learning Management System to deliver assigned courses, schedule sessions, record attendance, and track course completion.
- Deliver in-person training to customer personnel and internal Field Service personnel using classroom instruction, hands-on demonstrations, verbal checks for understanding, and written knowledge assessments.
- Deliver remote training using multiple instructional resources, including documentation, drawings, models, simulators, and other technical materials.
- Verify that learners can correctly perform published released procedures in accordance with safety, quality, and documentation requirements.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to define learning objectives for assigned topics, tasks, procedures, and training deliveries.
- Create training packages based on approved learning objectives and required learner outcomes.
- Develop system training packages covering system overview, subsystem and major assembly overview, system operations, and system software operations.
- Convert existing training materials into computer-based training modules and upload completed content to the Learning Management System, including audio and other multimedia outputs.
- Assist Technical Writers by reviewing procedures for technical accuracy, task clarity, and safe execution.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or degree from an Engineering & Applied Technology School plus 5 years of experience in Technical Support or Field Service is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
- Experience in Sustaining or providing Technical Support in the semiconductor or technical manufacturing field is strongly preferred.
- Travel as needed (about 25%) to deliver customer training and skill building through manufacturing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Industry experience installing, sustaining, troubleshooting, or supporting Ion Beam or related equipment.
- Safely demonstrates equipment operation, maintenance tasks, and procedural steps using released documentation and approved safety practices.
- Translates hands-on machinery experience into clear classroom instruction, lab demonstrations, and student performance activities.
- Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, vacuum, fluid delivery, and control system concepts as they apply to machinery operation and maintenance.
- Identifies equipment hazards, explains safe work practices, and reinforces proper use of personal protective equipment and lockout/tagout requirements where applicable.
- Troubleshoots equipment issues, explains root-cause thinking, and guides learners through systematic diagnostic methods.
- Verifies that learners can correctly perform hands-on tasks in accordance with released procedures, safety requirements, and quality expectations.
- Works directly with equipment, tools, fixtures, test equipment, drawings, schematics, manuals, and service procedures to support training development and delivery.
- Collaborates with Field Service, Engineering, Manufacturing, Technical Support, and Documentation teams to validate machinery-related training content.
- Creates, edits, reviews, and validates technical procedures so they are accurate, safe, complete, and clear for training and field use.
- Strong communication skills, including explaining complex machinery functions in clear, practical language for internal employees and customer personnel
Salary and Benefits
The expected salary range for this position is $78,362.00 — $104,483.00, plus a bonus opportunity. We will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors when determining your pay.
