Veeco is a dynamic, innovative, and high-growth company recognized as a leader in the markets we serve. We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer III to join our Software Engineering team. If you have a passion for programming, particularly with state-of-the-art electromechanical systems, this is the technical team you want to be part of.

This role is focused on developing software for complex semiconductor manufacturing and capital equipment systems. The ideal candidate will have experience developing software that directly interfaces with hardware, equipment controls, instrumentation, sensors, motion-control systems, and other sophisticated electromechanical platforms. Candidates from semiconductor equipment, semiconductor manufacturing, industrial automation, robotics, photonics, scientific instrumentation, medical device, aerospace, or other capital equipment industries are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates whose experience is primarily focused on web applications, SaaS platforms, financial systems, enterprise software, or cloud-only environments without significant hardware interaction may not be the best fit for this position.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, debug, test, and maintain complex application software using C++.
• Develop software that interfaces directly with hardware components, sensors, instrumentation, motion-control systems, and manufacturing equipment.
• Work with testers, developers, and operations teams to reproduce, troubleshoot, and resolve field and internal software issues.
• Act as a cross-functional technical lead on projects involving software, hardware, controls, and systems integration, and serve as the software representative on multidisciplinary teams.
• Consult with hardware, controls, electrical, and mechanical engineers to evaluate hardware/software interfaces and overall system performance requirements.
• Analyze software requirements to determine the feasibility of design solutions within time, performance, and cost constraints.
• Provide software architecture and design solutions for new features, enhancements, and future product development.
• Perform root-cause analysis of complex software and system-level issues and implement corrective and preventative solutions.
• Exercise independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
• Work in an Agile/SCRUM development environment utilizing modern software development tools and practices.
• Support system integration, validation, equipment commissioning, and customer deployments.
• Travel up to 20% domestically and internationally to support customer installations, issue resolution, and system commissioning activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline and 5+ years of professional software development experience; or a Master's degree and 3+ years of related experience designing, developing, testing, and optimizing software.
• Strong professional experience developing production software using C++.
• Strong Object-Oriented Design (OOD) and Object-Oriented Analysis (OOA) skills.
• Experience developing and supporting software for complex electromechanical systems, automated equipment, industrial controls, robotics, motion-control systems, semiconductor manufacturing equipment, or similar hardware-integrated platforms.
• Experience designing, debugging, testing, and supporting complex software applications.
• Experience troubleshooting and resolving complex software and system-level issues in deployed environments.
• Experience collaborating with Software, Controls, Electrical, Mechanical, and Systems Engineering teams.
• Experience developing software for semiconductor manufacturing equipment preferred. Candidates with software development experience supporting industrial automation, robotics, motion-control systems, photonics equipment, aerospace systems, medical devices, scientific instrumentation, or other complex electromechanical capital equipment will also be considered.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong understanding of modern C++ software development.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and scalable application design.
• Understanding of hardware/software integration principles and the interaction of software with sensors, instrumentation, motion-control systems, and electromechanical equipment.
• Experience designing user interfaces; familiarity with DirectX, WinForms, or similar technologies is a plus.
• Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and root-cause analysis skills.
• Ability to analyze interactions between software, hardware, controls, and mechanical subsystems within integrated systems.
• Strong commitment to software quality, reliability, and attention to detail.
• Ability to self-manage and work effectively under minimal supervision.
• Familiarity with modern software development practices including version control, issue tracking, code reviews, testing, and Agile methodologies.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Experience supporting deployed equipment in manufacturing, laboratory, or customer environments is highly desirable.

Salary and Benefits 
The expected salary range for this position is $127,656—$161,697.00, plus a bonus opportunity. We will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors when determining your pay.
