Overview

This Buyer position is responsible for procuring equipment, sub-assemblies, components and services consistent with specified levels of quality, delivery, price and total cost; ensuring that all purchase orders are managed, documented and administered in compliance with the company procedures and policies. The ideal candidate should excel at collaborating with off-site operations on production requirements and outsourcing activities. Strong problem-solving and communication skills are essential, along with a good understanding of purchasing processes and the ability to execute them effectively within an MRP system.

 

Responsibilities

  • Place direct and indirect purchase orders for assigned vendors or commodities; utilizing MRP or other planning strategies and performing all steps in the procurement process with accuracy and care to avoid economic loss and customer dissatisfaction.  
  • Maintain schedules over the life of the purchase order from receipt of requisition, placement of order, managing expedites / reschedules / cancelations / past due orders, to acceptance of the assigned material into stock and the resolve of invoice discrepancies.   
  • Process rejected materials and returns per (MRB) guidelines; assuring cause and corrective action as necessary
  • Coordinate the execution of Engineering Change Requests (ECR’s) and Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s)
  • Request quotations with vendors and negotiate for best total cost (price, lead-time, delivery and service)
  • Strong verbal and written communication; ensuring clear and consistent articulation of expectations, requirements and issues to suppliers and stakeholders across departments and business units. 
  • Proactively anticipates, identifies, analyzes and resolves supply chain challenges within delegated authority. Escalates issues to management and stakeholders only after thorough independent assessment and resolution efforts.
  • Supports and when required, leads global sourcing strategies and continuous improvement initiatives. Skilled in facilitating small groups, designing productive working session, and effectively engaging middle/upper management as needed
  • Manage supplier relationships and performance to meet company expectations and objectives
  • Maintain and help define data that enables the effectiveness of company systems and processes

 

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Business, Logistics or Supply Chain preferred
  • Minimum two years of buying experience in a semi-conductor equipment manufacturing or high technology environment.

 

Knowledge; Skills and Abilities

  • Outsourcing and management skills in controlling and negotiating with Contract Manufacturers, piece-parts suppliers.
  • SAP user experience especially for MM/PM module and know-how of execution in an MRP system
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office/ proficient in Excel and comprehensive computer skills required
  • Understanding of Purchasing Law as it applies to the purchasing function
  • Must be detail oriented; able to multi-task and perform the essential daily functions with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to travel to Supplier Site (locally and within Asia) – 20%
