OVERVIEW
Join Veeco's manufacturing team and help scale production of a next-generation ion deposition platform that powers advanced semiconductor technologies.
As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in standing up and scaling production for Veeco's advanced ion deposition system in Beverly, MA. This is a highly visible, hands-on, floor-first role where you'll work directly alongside assembly technicians to solve complex hardware challenges, support early product builds, and transform evolving processes into scalable manufacturing solutions.
Operating in a dynamic, high-complexity environment with multiple product configurations, you will serve as a technical leader driving production readiness, process optimization, and manufacturing excellence. This position offers exceptional visibility, influence, and the opportunity to become a key subject matter expert as production ramps and operations mature, helping establish the foundation for long-term manufacturing success.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Production Scale-Up & Manufacturing Readiness
Key Skills: Production scale-up, NPI, assembly & integration, manufacturing readiness, electromechanical systems, multi-configuration builds
- Lead manufacturing scale-up for Veeco's advanced ion deposition system, driving production readiness through assembly, integration, final test, and early production builds across evolving system configurations.
- Establish scalable manufacturing processes, tooling, documentation, and production infrastructure while navigating ambiguity and supporting operational maturity as volume increases.
Hands-On Technical Leadership & Problem Solving
Key Skills: Electromechanical troubleshooting, controls systems, root cause analysis, 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, corrective actions
- Serve as a floor-first manufacturing engineering leader, working directly with technicians to troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, controls, vacuum, gas delivery, cryogenic, and system integration issues during active builds.
- Lead structured problem-solving efforts using 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, and failure analysis methodologies to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and prevent recurrence.
Process Development & Operational Excellence
Key Skills: Process development, process validation, manufacturing qualification, engineering changes, SAP/ERP, documentation control
- Develop and optimize manufacturing processes, assembly instructions, sequence of operations, process controls, and training materials that enable scalable, repeatable, and high-quality production.
- Lead validation, qualification, engineering changes, deviations, and rework execution while leveraging ERP systems (SAP preferred) to improve quality, throughput, reliability, and manufacturability.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Manufacturing Excellence
Key Skills: DFM/DFMA, technical communication, cross-functional leadership, stakeholder influence, continuous improvement
- Partner with Design Engineering, Quality, Field Service, Supply Chain, Operations, and Production teams to improve manufacturability, resolve technical challenges, support NPI activities, and accelerate production ramp.
- Influence decisions through technical expertise, data-driven analysis, and clear communication of manufacturing readiness, production risks, and improvement opportunities across all organizational levels.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline with 7+ years of relevant experience; or Master’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, sustaining engineering, or production of complex electromechanical systems.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and controls-related hardware issues in a production environment.
- Demonstrated success leading root cause investigations and implementing corrective actions that improve quality, reliability, and manufacturing performance.
Preferred
- Experience with semiconductor capital equipment, vacuum systems, thin-film processing equipment, ion beam systems, industrial automation, aerospace, medical devices, or other highly engineered products.
- Experience supporting low-volume, high-mix, high-complexity manufacturing environments and production scale-up activities.
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement certification.
- Experience applying Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles to improve manufacturability, quality, and cost.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Hands-on experience supporting assembly, integration, and final test of complex electromechanical systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, BOMs, GD&T requirements, and 3D CAD models; SolidWorks preferred.
- Experience troubleshooting vacuum systems, gas delivery systems, cryogenic equipment, motion/control systems, valves, controllers, and related hardware.
- Proficiency with structured problem-solving methodologies including 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, and corrective action/preventive action (CAPA).
- Experience executing engineering changes, deviations, and rework activities within a production environment.
- Familiarity with ERP systems, manufacturing documentation control, and production data management (SAP preferred).
- Ability to thrive in high-mix, low-volume, rapidly scaling manufacturing environments with evolving processes and multiple product configurations.
Salary and Benefits
The expected salary range for this position is $94,000—$120,000, plus a bonus opportunity. We will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors when determining your pay.
